Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar University, Agra, Uttar Pradesh, with Hon’ble Mrs. Anandiben Patel as its Chancellor, is a prestigious academic institution known for its educational excellence, social awareness, and progressive outlook. Its motto – "Tamaso Ma Jyotirgamaya" – symbolizes not only the attainment of knowledge and liberation from ignorance but also conveys a universal message of truth, justice, and guidance.

Established on 1st July 1927, it is one of the oldest educational institutions in North India. Initially, its jurisdiction extended over parts of Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan, Northern Madhya Pradesh, and Western Bihar. In 1996, the university was renamed in honor of the architect of the Indian Constitution as Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar University. Presently, its jurisdiction spans four districts of Uttar Pradesh – Agra, Mathura, Firozabad, and Mainpuri.

The university's foundation was supported by many distinguished individuals, including the first Vice-Chancellor Sir William Skillbeck Martin and Deputy Vice-Chancellor Reverend Canon A.W. Dev. Prominent national figures such as former Presidents Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma, Mr. Ram Nath Kovind, and former Prime Minister Mr. Atal Bihari Vajpayee received education here. Other notable personalities associated with the university include thinker Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay, National Security Advisor Mr. Ajit Doval, literary figures such as Mr. Raghe Yadav and Dr. Nagendra, and scientific pioneers like Prof. Narendra Singh Kapany and Dr. Ganesh Prasad Pandey. Their contributions have not only achieved greatness in their respective fields but also brought honor and recognition to the university.

The university structure includes four major residential campuses: Paliwal Park, Swami Vivekananda Swami Vivekanand Campus, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Chalesar Campus, and Sanskriti Bhawan Civil Lines Campus, where high-quality academic activities and classes are conducted. The Swami Vivekanand campus has two hostels specifically for female students, while the Chalesar campus houses a male hostel. The university is affiliated with 14 government colleges, 27 aided colleges, and 540 self-financed colleges.

The Institute of Physical Education offers sports facilities of international standards. Additionally, the university has been operating a model school for the past 24 years, providing quality education from nursery to Class 12.

In line with the National Education Policy 2020, the university, through 9 faculties and 43 teaching departments, provides excellence in education, research, and innovation in various programs such as Doctorate, Postgraduate, Graduate, and PG Diploma. Around 2,724 academic programs are being operated in the campus. Currently, 3 to 5 lakh students are studying in affiliated colleges, while about 6,000 students reside in the university’s hostels.

The Vivekananda Incubation Foundation is functioning as an incubator to promote the startup ecosystem, while an Intellectual Property Rights Cell manages IPR-related activities between the university and affiliated colleges. Over recent years, the university has published more than 3,000 Scopus-indexed research publications, achieved an H-index of 60, and received ₹5 crore from external research grants and consultancy projects. The Kanhaiyalal Munshi Hindi and Language Institute houses ancient manuscripts, and the History Department includes a coin museum.

The Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar University , Uttar Pradesh, has implemented the Samarth e-Governance Admission Portal for the 2025-26 academic year to streamline and digitize the admission process for Government and Aided Colleges in the state.

The portal offers a centralized online admission system, allowing students to apply to multiple colleges and programs through a single platform. It ensures transparency, efficiency, and ease of access for applicants and institutions alike.
